Livishie Power Station - Tailrace
Photo by: Mike Ross The short track leading to the tailrace works actually has a branch which
heads underground - this flooded ramp, with a gate across the end, leads
directly into the tailrace (which is running from left to right behind
the gate). This would have been used during construction - much of the
Garry/Moriston scheme was constructed using vehicles with ordinary rubber
tyres underground for the first time in the UK, in place of the more conventional
railway tracks. It can probably still be used for maintenance. The concrete
structure to the left, with a wooden door visible, apparently doesn't lead
anywhere significant - it's just a small room currently used as a pollution
control store. Photo by: Mike Ross Looking across Loch Dundreggan from the Livishie tailrace, Dundreggan dam
and the intake structure for Glenmoriston power station are clearly visible. Photo by: Mike Ross Home Page Last updated 5th March 2003 Style © 1998-2001 Subterranea Britannica Words and images © 2003 Michael J. Ross |
